Hello to the 12k+ subscribers of this newsletter! It has been a few months since I last shared an update, but will plan to share updates more regularly moving forward.
I’ve noticed over the last few months that n-gen’s usage has continued to ebb and flow each day. That being said, I can tell when there’s a viral post featuring an n-gen piece going around and causing a pretty big spike in traffic; however, it’s oftentimes very hard to track down the post itself if I’m not tagged.
Not this time though.
A few weeks ago, this tweet about Sam McWilliams, Taylor Swift’s dancer, and his Spotify DNA sparked discourse and even made its way over to Reddit (the post has since been deleted). His strand is notably missing Taylor Swift…
The reactions among Swifties were pretty split. Some respected that he listened to other artists during his free time, others felt betrayed to see he listens to Olivia Rodrigo.
Reflecting on this small viral spike:
I respect the amount of power and energy Taylor Swift fans have to promote, analyze, and discuss this
I am extremely curious who top artists in the industry listen to — does Drake still listen to Kendrick!?
It is (and always has been) humbling to see the discourse the art sparks, and amazing to see folks go on to create their own versions
Sam, if by some chance you’re reading this, I do hope you enjoyed your DNA graphic and I think you have a great taste in music. Sorry for any “Bad Blood” I may have created.
And of course, you can still create your Spotify DNA for free here :)
